Based in the mid-north of the North Island of New Zealand,
Atacat Cattery has a long and distinguished history of fine Burmese and now Mandalay cats
and kittens. Since 1975 when Carol imported her first burmese Verncastelle Valda [
1975-1995 ] from Australia, she has been active as a cat breeder.
Many of her cats have achieved champion status with the very finest
going on to the top and being granted the status of double grand champion.
Even in the relatively small pool of cats that New Zealand can muster,
this is a fine achievement. Many breeders try for years without success
to get the one cat that goes all or part of the way to double grand.
Carol first became a judge on the cat show circuit in 1979 gaining
senior status. After a break of 10 years she completed the the long
and demanding course to requalify in June of 1999 . Her reputation
at finding fleas on otherwise pristine cats
precedes her. Even those who have never had cats judged by her know
about this talent.
We are now breeding a new type of burmese called Mandalays. They
have the same superb nature and body type as Burmese, but are available
in a range of deeper colours.
Recently we had three Atacats that flew the Atacat banner high.
Now retired, their achievments may be viewed in the awards section.
We have several promising youngsters coming through and will be placing
them on the pages when they have been to some shows. There are also
articles of varied interests to peruse and graphics to view.
We built a extensive, roofed, fully wind and rain sheltered cattrun
during the summer of 1994-95 for the housing of queens that were mated
with Rasputin and for boarding the kittens\cats that we have bred
. We bought it with us when we moved and it has seldom been unoccupied
by boarders. We no longer have a stud cat.
When there are no boarders it is a favourite sleeping area and playground
for our own cats and kittens. Even in very inclement weather, that
we can experience, there is usually a cat in it. We are able to drop
the canvas blinds making it watertight and windproof.
We only have 2 breeding queens , Ch Atacat Amber Lee, an ebony ticked
tabby mandalay, carries cinnamon and burmese, and we hope she will
produce a cinnamon burmese or mandalay when mated to a cinnamon mandalay
later this year and Atacat Greta Garbo, a young ebony mandalay queen
also carried cinnamon. In her first litter, January 2001, Greta suprised
us by producing a solid caramel mandalay - NZ's first - Atacat Silver
Image.
All of our kittens that we breed have a reputation for excellent body type and tone. They
are always healthy, well balanced and usually utterly fearless which has got them into
some strife at times.
Please note that we do not export any of our cats under any circumstances. |
